PADI Advanced Open Water, What it is and How it Works

Get your PADI Advanced Open Water Course in Bali and take the next step in your scuba diving journey. Train with a dedicated PADI Instructor in Amed or Nusa Penida, enjoy minimal classroom time and maximum time in the water, and gain real confidence and control while diving some of Bali’s most iconic sites. The PADI Advanced Open Water Course includes five adventure dives. Two dives are required, the Deep Dive to 30 metres and Underwater Navigation. You’ll learn how to plan deeper dives safely, understand how depth affects gas use and no-decompression limits, and navigate using natural references and a compass, helping your advanced diving in Bali feel smooth, controlled, and safe.

The remaining three dives are chosen based on your interests and the conditions on the day, allowing you to tailor the course to your goals. Popular options include Peak Performance Buoyancy to improve trim and air consumption, a Wreck Dive at the USAT Liberty in Tulamben to learn safe wreck diving techniques, a Drift Dive in Nusa Penida to master current control at sites such as Manta Point and Toyapakeh, and a Night Dive to build awareness and navigation skills after dark. If you discover a favourite, your adventure dive can be credited towards a full PADI Specialty.

Many divers choose to combine the course with PADI Enriched Air Nitrox to extend bottom time on deeper dives, allowing you to earn two certifications over five to six dives. After completing your PADI Advanced Open Water Course, you’ll be certified to dive to 30 metres and ready for more adventurous fun dives at sites like Crystal Bay, the Liberty Wreck, and Amed’s volcanic reefs, as well as perfectly prepared to continue on to the PADI Rescue Diver Course.

The course is typically completed over two days, with one day of two dives and one day of three dives. A night dive may be included depending on sea and weather conditions. We can run the course in Amed or Nusa Penida, adapt the schedule to suit your travel plans, and arrange transport between locations to ensure a smooth, seamless experience. Two dives are mandatory, Deep Diving and Underwater Navigation, while the remaining three are elective dives chosen based on conditions and your interests.
