Students must be at least 10 years old. Those aged 10–14 receive the PADI Junior Scuba Diver certification, and permission from a parent or legal guardian is required.
No previous scuba-diving experience is required. Students must have adequate swimming skills, feel comfortable in the water and be medically fit to dive.
The course includes PADI learning materials, confined-water training, two open-water training dives, child-sized scuba equipment, instruction from a PADI Professional, lunch on training days and PADI certification.
Once certified, Junior Scuba Divers can dive to a maximum depth of 12 metres while under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional.
The course normally takes two to three days, depending on the student’s progress, confidence and sea conditions. Students can later continue their training and upgrade to the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification.
