No previous drift-diving experience is required. You must be at least 12 years old and hold a PADI Open Water Diver certification, or an equivalent qualifying certification. You should also be medically fit to dive and comfortable in open-water conditions.
The course includes knowledge development, two open-water training dives, professional PADI instruction, full diving equipment, DAN dive insurance, lunch and PADI certification.
You will study the fundamentals of drift diving before the practical training. This covers understanding currents, planning drift dives, buddy procedures, entries and exits, buoyancy control and the use of surface marker buoys. Your instructor will review everything before your dives.
You will learn how to assess currents, plan and complete safe drift dives, maintain your depth and buoyancy, stay close to your buddy and use a surface marker buoy. You will also practise safe entries, exits and communication procedures.
Yes, when managed correctly and under professional supervision. Your PADI Instructor will select suitable dive sites based on the day’s conditions and your experience. If conditions are unsuitable, the itinerary or dive sites may be adjusted for safety.
The PADI Drift Diver Specialty can normally be completed in one day and includes two open-water training dives.

After completing the course, you will earn the internationally recognised PADI Drift Diver Specialty certification and have the skills and confidence to enjoy drift dives in current more safely.
