PADI Discover Scuba Diving in Bali

What is PADI Discover Scuba Diving, DSD

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) experience is the easiest and safest way to try scuba diving in Bali, no certification or experience required. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to breathe underwater or want to go beyond snorkelling, this beginner-friendly PADI program is the perfect first step.

Your Discover Scuba Diving session begins in a calm pool, where you’ll learn about scuba gear, underwater safety, and essential diving skills at shallow depths in the pool. Your instructor stays right next to you at all times, offering reassurance and gentle guidance throughout the session.
You can choose to dive at either Nusa Penida or Amed, two of Bali’s most beautiful and beginner-friendly locations. In Nusa Penida, you may glide alongside manta rays at the cleaning station, and drift along vibrant coral reefs, while Amed offers relaxed volcanic slopes and easy conditions near the famous Liberty Shipwreck.

Once you’ve reserved your dive, we’ll send you a link to the PADI eLearning platform for a short theory module and quiz before your session. At the dive centre, your instructor will review basic skills in the pool, including breathing, mask clearing, and time to swim underwater with your equipment, before you take your first breaths underwater and explore Bali’s tropical marine life.

After the pool session, you’ll glide through coral gardens on your guided ocean dive, discovering colourful fish and calm currents. All DSD sessions take place at beginner-friendly sites, with full supervision and high-quality PADI 5-Star Dive Centre equipment provided. If you feel nervous or scared that is completely normal, we are here to ensure you feel comfortable and relaxed, to enjoy the incredible underwater world of Bali, we prioritise your safety. With experienced instructors speaking a mix of 5 languages, we can guarantee you wont regret this bucket list experience.

What to Expect from Your PADI Discover Scuba Diving in Bali

1. Theory: Learn the Basics with PADI eLearning

Before your dive, you’ll receive a link to complete the PADI eLearning module, a short, interactive introduction to scuba diving that covers essential skills such as breathing, equalisation, and underwater hand signals. You can finish it online at your own pace before arriving in Bali or complete it with your instructor at the dive centre.
This quick theory session helps you understand how scuba works and prepares you for your first underwater experience. It’s ideal for anyone curious about Discover Scuba Diving Bali or considering continuing to the PADI Open Water Diver course later on.
By completing your eLearning in advance, you’ll spend less time in the classroom and more time in the water, practising, diving, and exploring. It’s your first step into Bali’s underwater world and the perfect way to feel calm and confident before taking your first breath beneath the surface with
your PADI instructor by your side.

2. Pool Training: Practice in Calm, Shallow Water

Your Discover Scuba Diving pool session is where you take your first real steps into the world of diving. Under the guidance of your Instructor, you’ll learn and practise all the basic scuba skills in a calm, safe, and supportive environment.
During the pool training, you’ll take your first breaths underwater, get used to the equipment, and master simple techniques such as mask clearing, regulator recovery, as well as time to swim underwater with your equipment. Sessions usually last 45–60 minutes, giving you plenty of time to relax, gain confidence, and enjoy the feeling of weightlessness.
This step is designed to help you feel completely at ease before moving to your open-water dive. Many first-time divers say this is their favourite part of the Discover Scuba Diving Bali experience, that magical moment when you realise how natural it feels to breathe underwater and move freely beneath the surface.

3. Ocean Dives: Explore Bali’s Underwater World

Now for the best part of your Discover Scuba Diving Bali experience, your ocean dives. Once you’ve completed your pool training, you’ll head out with your instructor for one or two guided dives at our top beginner-friendly sites in Amed or Nusa Penida. This is where you’ll glide effortlessly over coral reefs, swim alongside colourful fish, and experience the incredible feeling of weightlessness underwater. Depending on the day’s conditions, you may explore vibrant reefs, see tropical marine life, or even spot manta rays in Nusa Penida. Explore some of Bali’s top diving sites, from Manta Point and Crystal Bay to the famous USAT Liberty Shipwreck and so much more. Your instructor stays right next to you throughout the dive, adjusting your buoyancy, checking your comfort, and making sure you feel completely safe and relaxed. Dives are kept shallow, with a maximum depth of 12 metres, giving you the best visibility and comfort for your first time exploring the ocean.
If you find that you love scuba diving as much as we do, your PADI discover scuba diving experience can even count toward your PADI Open Water Diver certification if you complete your Open Water Course with Jukung Dive Resort, the next step to becoming a fully certified diver.
When you return to the dive centre, relax and enjoy lunch, included in most DSD packages. It’s the perfect way to end your first scuba diving experience in Bali and maybe even the start of your underwater journey.

Medical Form:
Before diving, all participants must complete the official PADI Medical Questionnaire. You’ll receive a link to download it when booking your DSD (included in your confirmation email).
If you answer “yes” to any questions on page two, a brief medical clearance from a doctor will be required before you begin in-water activities.

Here, you’ll complete a few short chapters, videos, and quizzes introducing the basics of scuba diving, from hand signals and equalisation to safety tips.
Completing this theory at home saves time on site, so you can spend more of your Bali holiday exploring reefs and enjoying your dive, rather than studying.
