Overview

Discover the history, mystery and marine life surrounding Bali’s underwater wrecks with the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty in Amed and Tulamben. Featuring the world-famous USAT Liberty Wreck, this course is ideal for certified divers who want to explore wrecks more safely and confidently.

You will complete four open-water training dives with an experienced PADI Instructor. Learn how to survey and navigate a wreck, identify potential hazards, use lines and reels, maintain careful buoyancy and plan safe wreck dives. Where appropriate, you may also learn the procedures used for limited wreck penetration within the boundaries of recreational training.

The USAT Liberty is covered in coral and home to an incredible variety of marine life, making it the perfect training site for developing practical wreck-diving skills. Dive sites and activities are always selected according to conditions, diver experience and safety.

After successfully completing the course, you will earn the internationally recognised PADI Wreck Diver Specialty certification.

Daily Itinerary PADI eLearning & Course Preparation

Complete your PADI Wreck Diver knowledge development before the practical training. Learn how to research and survey wrecks, recognise potential hazards, plan wreck dives and use specialised equipment. Your instructor will review the key information and prepare you for diving around the wrecks of Amed and Tulamben.

Daily Itinerary Wreck Training Dives 1 & 2

Begin with two instructor-led training dives around the USAT Liberty or another suitable local wreck. Learn how to survey a wreck, identify hazards, maintain careful buoyancy and navigate while exploring its exterior. Dive sites are selected according to conditions, experience and safety.

Daily Itinerary Wreck Training Dives 3 & 4

Complete two further wreck-training dives while practising more advanced navigation and line-and-reel techniques. Where conditions, certification and diver ability allow, your instructor may introduce procedures for limited wreck penetration within recreational training limits.

Daily Itinerary Course Completion & PADI Certification

After successfully completing all four training dives and the required knowledge development, you will earn your internationally recognised PADI Wreck Diver Specialty certification.

FAQ

Do I need previous wreck-diving experience?

No previous wreck-diving experience is required. You must be at least 15 years old and hold a PADI Adventure Diver certification, or an equivalent qualifying certification. You should also be medically fit and comfortable diving in open water.

What is included in the course?

The course includes knowledge development, four wreck-training dives, professional PADI instruction, full diving equipment, DAN dive insurance, lunch on diving days and PADI certification.

How does the knowledge development work?

You will study wreck-diving procedures before the practical training. This covers researching and surveying wrecks, recognising hazards, wreck navigation, dive planning and the correct use of lines and reels. Your instructor will review everything before your dives.

What skills will I learn during the dives?

You will learn how to survey and navigate a wreck, identify potential hazards, maintain careful buoyancy and use lines and reels. You will also practise planning and completing wreck dives safely with your buddy.

Will we dive at the USAT Liberty Wreck?

The USAT Liberty in Tulamben is normally one of the main training sites for this course. Other suitable wreck sites around Amed and Tulamben may also be used depending on conditions, training requirements and safety.

Will we enter inside the wreck?

Limited wreck-penetration training may be introduced when conditions, diver ability and safety allow. Any penetration remains within recreational training limits and is completed under the direct supervision of your PADI Instructor.

Training may be available in English, Chinese, French, Spanish and Indonesian. Please request your preferred language when booking so we can confirm instructor availability.

How long does the course take?

The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty normally takes two days and includes four open-water training dives.
