Overview

Become a certified scuba diver in the beautiful waters of Amed and Tulamben. The PADI Open Water Diver course is designed for beginners and gives you the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to dive safely with a buddy anywhere in the world.

Begin with PADI eLearning, which you can complete online at your own pace before the course. Your practical training includes confined-water sessions with a professional PADI instructor, where you will learn essential skills such as equipment setup, buoyancy control, mask clearing and emergency procedures.

You will then complete four open-water training dives around Amed and Tulamben, with the opportunity to explore the world-famous USAT Liberty wreck. You will gradually build your confidence while discovering coral reefs, tropical fish and diverse marine life. Dive sites are selected according to sea conditions, safety and student progress.

After successfully completing the course, you will receive your internationally recognised PADI Open Water Diver certification, allowing you to dive with a certified buddy to a maximum depth of 18 metres.

Daily Itinerary PADI eLearning

Begin your course with PADI eLearning, which covers the essential knowledge you need to become a safe and confident diver. Study topics including dive equipment, planning, underwater communication, buoyancy, safety procedures and responsible diving.

The online theory can be completed at your own pace from home and should be finished before your practical training begins in Amed. Your instructor will review the key points and answer any questions when you arrive.

Daily Itinerary Pool Training & Essential Scuba Skills

Begin with confined-water training in the swimming pool. Your PADI instructor will introduce you to the equipment, explain important safety procedures and teach you the essential skills needed to dive safely and confidently.

You will practise equipment setup, breathing underwater, mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control, safe ascents and descents, buddy procedures and emergency skills. The session length depends on your comfort and progress.

Daily Itinerary Open Water Training Dives 1 & 2

Put your new skills into practice during your first two open-water training dives at suitable beginner-friendly sites around Amed and Tulamben. Complete the required course exercises under the close supervision of your PADI instructor while building confidence and discovering colourful coral reefs and tropical marine life.

Dive sites are selected according to sea conditions, safety and student progress.

Daily Itinerary Open Water Training Dives 3 & 4

Complete your final two open-water training dives around Amed and Tulamben, with the opportunity to explore the world-famous USAT Liberty wreck. Continue developing your buoyancy, navigation, buddy awareness and general diving confidence while completing the remaining course skills with your instructor.

Dive sites depend on conditions and student progress. Lunch is included after the diving day.

Daily Itinerary Course Completion & PADI Certification

After completing your PADI eLearning, confined-water training and four open-water dives, your instructor will review your progress and complete your certification.

Once certified, you will become an internationally recognised PADI Open Water Diver, qualified to dive with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18 metres.

FAQ

Do I need any previous diving experience?

No previous diving experience or certification is required. The PADI Open Water Diver course is designed for beginners and teaches you the knowledge and practical skills needed to become a safe, confident and internationally certified diver.

What is included in the course?

The course includes PADI eLearning, confined-water training, four open-water training dives, full diving equipment, tanks and weights, a professional PADI instructor, DAN dive accident insurance, lunch on diving days and your PADI certification upon successful completion.

How does PADI eLearning work?

Your PADI eLearning is included and can be completed online at your own pace before arriving in Amed. It covers dive theory, equipment, planning, underwater communication and safety. The eLearning should be completed before your practical training begins.

Are the courses taught in small groups?

Yes. We keep our Open Water courses in small groups so every student receives personal attention, plenty of time to practise each skill and close supervision from a professional PADI instructor.

Will we dive at the USAT Liberty wreck?

Yes, your first two open-water training dives will usually take place at Jemeluk Bay, followed by dives three and four at the world-famous USAT Liberty wreck in Tulamben. Dive sites may change depending on sea conditions, safety and student progress.

How long does the course take?

The practical course usually takes three days after completing your PADI eLearning. This includes confined-water training in the pool, followed by four open-water training dives completed over two diving days.

What can I do after completing the course?

After successfully completing all course requirements, you will receive your internationally recognised PADI Open Water Diver certification. This allows you to dive with a certified buddy to a maximum depth of 18 metres.

Which languages are available?

The PADI Open Water Diver course can be offered in English, Chinese, or Indonesian, subject to instructor availability. Please tell us your preferred language when booking so we can arrange the right instructor.
